About the Northwest Territories Tractor-Trailer test

In Northwest Territories, this is Class 1, issued by MACA. The questions below are labelled for Northwest Territories, using MACA's own terminology and thresholds.

The tractor-trailer class is the top commercial licence, Class 1 in most provinces and Class A in Ontario, and it authorizes any combination of a power unit and a towed trailer, including semi-trailers. On top of general knowledge it tests the skills unique to combinations: coupling and uncoupling, fifth-wheel and kingpin operation, off-tracking, trailer sway, and jackknife prevention.

Several provinces require entry-level training before the road test for this class, for example Ontario's mandatory course, B.C.'s Class 1 MELT, Alberta's Class 1 Learning Pathway and Saskatchewan's 121.5 hours of MELT. The knowledge component also covers combination weights and dimensions, load securement, and the federal Hours-of-Service rules that apply to long-haul work.
