About the Canadian car licence knowledge test
Every Canadian province administers its own written knowledge test for the Class 5 (passenger car) licence. The format varies — Ontario's G1 test has 40 multiple-choice questions; Quebec's SAAQ test has 64 split into two sections; British Columbia's ICBC test has 50; Alberta's Class 7 test has 30 — but the core content is the same: rules of the road, traffic signs, right-of-way, and safe driving practices.
Drive IQ Canada gives you free practice tests for all 13 provinces and territories, with the exact question format, pass mark, and time limit each province uses. We pull every question from the official driver's handbook, so what you see here is what you'll see on test day.
Most provinces let you book your knowledge test online and offer same-day or next-day appointments. The minimum age is usually 16 (14 with parental consent in some provinces), and you'll need to bring acceptable ID and the test fee.
