About the Nova Scotia School Bus test

The school-bus qualification is a separate, safety-critical category for carrying children, and it sits on top of the appropriate bus class (for example, an S endorsement in several provinces). It is built around the moment a bus is stopped to load or unload: the eight-light warning system, the amber-then-red sequence, the extended stop arm, and the danger zones immediately around the bus where children disappear from a driver's view.

The test also covers mandatory stops at railway crossings, counting and managing students, and the pre-trip checks specific to a school bus. Because of who is on board, school-bus drivers face stricter medical, vision, and record requirements with regular re-checks.
