Start practicingWhat this test covers
- Following distance: a heavy vehicle's stopping distance is much longer, so leave more space and add to it in poor conditions.
- Curve and ramp advisory speeds are set for cars; slow well below them in a loaded truck or full bus.
- On long downgrades, select a low gear before you start down and use steady brake applications, not constant braking.
- Manage your momentum: a heavy vehicle is slow to speed up and slow to stop, so plan lane changes and merges early.
- In winter, ice, and fog, reduce speed and increase your space cushion sooner than you would in a car.
- Scan far ahead so you can react gradually; abrupt steering or braking is what loses control of a big vehicle.
This practice test draws on the official commercial driver's manual. The real Nunavut commercial knowledge test requires an 80% score to pass.
