Northwest Territories's motorcycle knowledge test is the first step toward an NWT Class 6 licence. It covers motorcycle-specific operating rules, traffic laws, and safety considerations, and it's administered by Department of Infrastructure, GNWT. The Northwest Territories does not publish a pass mark or the number of questions for this test. No time limit is published.
Motorcycle riders face a different risk profile than drivers of enclosed vehicles, and the test reflects that. Expect questions on lane positioning, scanning well ahead and behind, and how to handle road hazards that matter far less in a car: gravel patches, painted lines in rain, oily intersection centres, and metal grates.
The Northwest Territories requires all motorcycle drivers and passengers to wear an approved helmet, securely fastened. The handbook covers protective gear in detail: long sleeves, long pants, over-the-ankle boots and full-finger gloves are recommended on every ride.
The Northwest Territories manual states that the law does not allow you to ride between lanes or share a lane with other drivers.

Northwest Territories: rules to know
In the Northwest Territories a motorcycle learner must ride under the supervision of someone who holds a full Class 6 licence and has held it for at least two years, and that supervisor must either be on the motorcycle with the learner or close by in or on another vehicle. Novice riders (Class 6P or 7) must have a zero alcohol level, and the Registrar suspends the licence at 6 or more demerit points; a Class 7 holder may not ride between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. The manual also states that the law does not allow riding between lanes or sharing a lane with other drivers.
