Everything to know about the Nunavut Class 6 Knowledge Exam
Nunavut's motorcycle knowledge test is the first step toward a Nunavut Class 6 licence. It covers motorcycle-specific operating rules, traffic laws, and safety considerations, and it's administered by Department of Community and Government Services, Motor Vehicles. Nunavut does not publish a pass mark or the number of questions for this test. No time limit is published.
Motorcycle riders face a different risk profile than drivers of enclosed vehicles, and the test reflects that. Expect questions on lane positioning, scanning well ahead and behind, and how to handle road hazards that matter far less in a car: gravel patches, painted lines in rain, oily intersection centres, and metal grates.
Nunavut requires all motorcycle riders to wear helmets. The handbook covers protective gear in detail: long sleeves, long pants, over-the-ankle boots and full-finger gloves are recommended on every ride.
Nunavut's manual tells riders not to cut in between lanes of traffic.
A pre-ride check of tires, brakes, lights, chain and fluid levels is basic safety on any motorcycle, especially after winter storage.
Brushing up on Canadian road signs? Our sign-specific practice covers every regulatory, warning, and information sign you'll see on the test.
Nunavut: rules to know
Nunavut lets you learn to ride if you hold a Class 7, 5, 4, 3, 2 or 1 licence and a Class 6 holder accompanies you on the motorcycle or follows in or on another vehicle, keeping you in view at all times. A learner may not ride after sunset or in speed zones of 70 km/h or more. Passengers are prohibited unless the motorcycle is equipped for two persons. Mopeds need a Class 5 licence, while all other motorcycles, including motor scooters and minibikes, need Class 6, and a motorcycle of 90 cc or less may not be ridden on a highway outside a municipality or settlement, or in speed zones over 50 km/h. A motorcycle must have a rear-view mirror, a headlight, a red tail light, a horn and a muffler, and should have two brakes; all riders must wear helmets.
