What does the Stop sign mean?
Come to a complete stop and yield to all cross traffic and pedestrians.
About this sign
The red octagonal stop sign is the most universally recognised regulatory sign. Stop behind any marked stop line, crosswalk, or — if neither — at the closest edge of the intersection where you can see cross traffic. In Quebec the wording is 'ARRÊT'; in officially bilingual New Brunswick it appears as 'STOP / ARRÊT'.
