DRIVE IQ CANADA · LICENCE EXCHANGE
VERIFIED AGAINST YUKON · AUGUST 2026
Exchange a foreign driver's licence in Yukon
Do you have to take a road test? It depends entirely on who issued your licence. Here is what Yukon publishes.
Yukon recognises five places in total: Canada, the United States, Taiwan, Germany and the Isle of Man. A German licence additionally requires a sign test. That is the whole list.
- Countries it exchanges from

- Experience you need
- 2 years to avoid the graduated program

If it does not
If you have held your licence for less than two years outside Canada you enter the graduated program regardless of where it was issued.
The things that catch people out
Recognised almost everywhere else, but not here
The United Kingdom, France, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand are not on Yukon's list, even though they are recognised almost everywhere else in Canada. You must switch within 120 days of moving, or 30 days if you hold an air brake endorsement.
