12 months of waiting, or 8 months with a course
- That time is counted from the day you get your learner's licence, not from your first lesson.
- You can start at 16.
- No practice hours to log. The wait is the requirement, not a number of hours behind the wheel.

Note: Motor Registration Division does not publish official figures for the fee or the retake wait. The handbook requires you to bring a receipt for payment of the road test but does not state the amount. Payment goes through MyGovNL, a Motor Registration office or a Government Service Centre.
04The things that catch people out
Passing is not the last step, and the result expires
After you pass, a clerk still has to process you: you hand over the passed road test receipt and pay the licence fee, and no licence is issued until that is done. A passed road test result is valid for 12 months, so leaving it too long means taking the test again.
Pay at least a day before
Newfoundland and Labrador asks you to pay for the road test at least 24 hours before your appointment, and warns that delays in processing the receipt can cancel it outright. Payment goes through MyGovNL, a Motor Registration office or a Government Service Centre.
