- That time is counted from the day you get your learner's licence, not from your first lesson.
- You can start at 15.
- No practice hours to log. The wait is the requirement, not a number of hours behind the wheel.
02What this test covers
The NWT calls it a practical examination rather than a road test, and it is timed: you have to finish within the allotted time or the examination is discontinued.

Note: GNWT Infrastructure does not publish official figures for the fee, the length, the retake wait, the marking scheme or automatic fail conditions. The NWT allots a set amount of time and discontinues the examination if you exceed it, but does not publish the figure.
04The things that catch people out
The examination is timed, and running over ends it
The NWT allots a set amount of time to the pre-trip inspection and the practical examination together, and states that you must finish within it or the examination is discontinued. It does not publish how long that allotment is, so treat the drive as something to complete briskly rather than cautiously slowly.
Nothing unsafe, and nothing unusual
The examiner will not ask you to do anything unsafe or against the law, and the NWT states you will only be asked to do things that are part of everyday driving.
